Over $14,000 raised for Foundation at 'That Night In Sarnia'

A grand total of $14,475 was raised for Bluewater Health’s Cancer Care Assessment and Treatment Centre at ‘That Night In Sarnia’

The Foundation received half of the over $28,000 that was raised at the special event, with the remaining half benefitting the Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research at Sunnybrook Hospital.

“We are so honoured to be the recipients of such a special gift,” says Kathy Alexander, Executive Director, Bluewater Health Foundation. “The awareness for cancer care and assessment that this event has created locally is amazing. These funds will help us to continue to provide the best possible treatment and support available to our patients and their families close to home.”

The event was presented collectively by K106.3 FM, The Station Music Hall, and Apex IT Solutions, and included a viewing of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s broadcast of the final Tragically Hip concert live from Kingston, Ontario, on two 30-foot inflatable screens in Canatara Park.

“It’s been a humbling experience to support Gord Downie and cancer research through the planning of ‘That Night In Sarnia’,” says Aaron Zimmer, organizing committee spokesperson. “We’re thrilled to be able to present such a substantial gift to our community hospital to continue making cancer care and assessment a priority not only nationally, but locally as well.”

This past May, The Tragically Hip’s front man Gord Downie announced he had been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, prompting the final nationwide tour.
