Foundation and Sexual Assault Survivors’ Centre Collaborate on New Event

SARNIA & PETROLIA – January 22, 2024 – Bluewater Health Foundation and Sexual Assault Survivors’ Centre Sarnia-Lambton (SASCSL) are thrilled to debut an exciting new event, Sunday Fun Day, which will benefit Bluewater Health’s Sexual Assault & Domestic Violence Treatment Centre and SASCSL. The event will take place on Sunday, March 3 from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Widder Station in Thedford. There will be bonfires, prizes, walking trails (weather permitting), live music featuring The Feverish Lemons with special guests A Mighty Fine Mess, and cozy drinks.

The non-profit organizations have partnered on this new event to fundraise for vital resources that help to support survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking. While government funding supports operation and administration, it is community donations that fund important upgrades and capital projects. In early 2024, Bluewater Health’s Sexual Assault & Domestic Violence Treatment Centre will undergo a significant refresh and relocation within the hospital, totaling $600,000. The Sexual Assault Survivors’ Centre also has plans for a move and rebrand in 2024, totaling $55,000.

“Bluewater Health has a longstanding, strong partnership with Sexual Assault Survivors’ Centre Sarnia-Lambton, so collaborating on a fundraising event came naturally to us,” says Kathy Alexander, Executive Director, Bluewater Health Foundation. “The upcoming work we have planned on the hospital’s sexual assault and domestic violence treatment centre will offer a revitalized space for survivors that is both comfortable and welcoming. This is so important for those who have recently experienced trauma and are in need of support and services.”

SASCSL, first established in 1982, and Bluewater Health, have worked closely for many years in supporting survivors. The partnership has proven crucial in ensuring individuals receive the care and resources needed throughout their journey via a wrap-around model of support that allows for a judgement free path to healing.

“We are excited to partner with the Foundation on this new event that will directly benefit survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking. It is absolutely vital that we continue to invest in these supports and services in Sarnia-Lambton,” says Chantel Butterfield, Executive Director, Sexual Assault Survivors’ Centre Sarnia-Lambton. “We envision a world where all people live free of sexual violence and oppression, and we are grateful to have a community standing with us who not only share our vision, but also support this important cause.”

Tickets are $60 and include a meal and prize opportunities. A shuttle service from Sarnia will be available at an additional cost. You can purchase your tickets today by visiting the Foundation office or purchase online at www.revelree.ca/event/sundayfunday.

Attendees are encouraged to wear their cozy flannel for the event.
