The Trews to Headline Do It For Sarnia Block Party

Bluewater Health Foundation and Do It For Sarnia, with the support of presenting sponsor LiUNA, are excited to announce that Canadian rock band The Trews will headline the Do It For Sarnia Block Party on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at the Suncor Agora in Centennial Park.

“We’ve been so impressed with and thankful for the community’s support of the Do It For Sarnia campaign and Block Party over the past few years,” says Kathy Alexander, Executive Director, Bluewater Health Foundation. “We thought this would be a unique opportunity for us to make the Block Party bigger and better than ever and ultimately help get Dan Edwards one step closer to his fundraising goal.”

Dan Edwards started the Do It For Sarnia campaign in 2016 in response to the generosity received from the community when he was involved in an accident that left him paralyzed from the neck down in 2006. Edwards set a $150,000 fundraising goal as part of the initiative, benefitting Mental Health & Addiction Services at Bluewater Health. To date, over $85,000 has been raised.

“We know Sarnia loves The Trews almost as much as they love Dan Edwards,” says Alexander. “We’re proud to be able to offer a new and unique twist on the Block Party overlooking the river at the beautiful Suncor Agora.”

“LiUNA has a long history of support of mental health initiatives, including our recent commitment of $250,000 towards child and youth mental health in Sarnia,” says Mike Maitland, Business Manager, LiUNA. “We’ve been big fans of Dan’s Do It For Sarnia initiative, so it was a natural fit. Partner that with supporting a great Canadian band like The Trews and LiUNA is proud to be the presenting sponsor of such an event.”

With multiple radio hits drawn from six scorching studio albums plus several EPs, pair of live records, and a retrospective, The Trews are among the most prolific, electrifying and innovative rock bands on the planet, a fact corroborated by onetime stage-mates The Rolling Stones, Weezer, and Bruce Springsteen.

The Nova Scotia-bred, Hamilton, Ontario-based combo of singer/guitarist Colin MacDonald, guitarist John-Angus MacDonald, bassist Jack Syperek, and drummer Chris Gormley – songwriters all – has won universal acclaim for both their dazzling live performances and wildly accessible songs.

The band’s current, sixth studio album, the towering and multifaceted Civilianaires, was cut in Toronto with fast-rising producer Derek Hoffman and features marquee assists from Arkells mainmain Max Kerman, super-producer Bob Rock, and celebrated singer/songwriter Serena Ryder.

Gates for the all-ages, licensed event open at 6 p.m., with special musical guests to be announced. Tickets are $40 each plus fees, and are available online at BWHF.CA immediately. Printed tickets will be available at locations throughout the community at a later date.
